Problem Statement: The physical and spiritual effects of contemporary mosques along with the architecture of traditional mosques in the city with the performance of religious ceremonies are the basis for human growth and excellence. Throughout history, mosques have always assumed different dimensions of body, function and meaning. This research has been done with the aim of identifying and analyzing the patterns and principles used in the architecture of historical mosques in Iran and presenting it for a comparative study with the architecture of contemporary mosques in the city of Rasht so that its quantity and quality can be analyzed and compared with reasonable accuracy.
Research Question: The main question is, what was the role of factors related to physical, semantic and functional foundations in the formation of contemporary mosques in Rasht city?
Research objectives: The research aimed to recognize and recover the influence of components such as the sense of belonging to the place, geometry, spatial order, unity, mystery, functional flexibility and physical-form principles in the formation of these mosques and special ceremonies of this region.
Research Method: The research method includes a historical-interpretive analysis and a combined type (quantitative and qualitative) and an inferential reasoning method along with a targeted sampling of the region's landmark works and their analysis. Data collection is in the form of documents, library and field research. The independent variable of the research is the seven components taken from the theoretical foundations and its dependent variable is the architecture of contemporary mosques in Rasht city. The statistical population and sampling method is quota.
The Most Important Results and Conclusion: In these mosques, attention is paid to physical principles such as climate design and the use of cultural, traditional, local elements and patterns, readability and permeability, and in the application of semantic principles, components such as invitation, simplicity and spatial purity, encryption and symbolism (water, light) , Islamic designs and metaphors such as the ritual path of Lahijan's forty minbars, etc.) are used more or less in all buildings, and in terms of functional principles, they have both religious and public functions. The results of the research show that in inner-city mosques, the border between the main spaces inside and outside the mosque is clear, and most of them have courtyards and middle spaces with a higher degree of transparency, and most of them are extroverted or mixed with spatial hierarchies and strong proportions. ; But in out-of-town mosques, this demarcation is unclear and they usually lack a courtyard. In terms of physical and formal principles, the location of mosques inside the city is mostly subject to land ownership restrictions, while the mosques outside the city are placed in more space in relation to their surrounding context, also by evaluating the impact of each of the three areas (physical, semantic and functional) on the contemporary mosques of Rasht, it can be seen that the most attention has been paid to the sub-components of flexibility, sense of belonging to the place and body-form, and the architecture of these mosques has followed the most functional principles compared to the other two principles, and among these buildings, Jame Mosque (Mosalla) has the most conformity with the patterns.
