Research Problem: From the point of view of psychology, humans need intimate interaction with the environment, emotional and spiritual experience towards the place. The sense of place is a catalyst that creates the process of deep experience of place for humans and transforms a space into a place with special sensory characteristics for people. Commercial complexes, as part of public urban spaces, play a crucial role in establishing social interactions. In recent years, the growth of the construction and the establishment of such spaces have caused the success of a few of them and other complexes have been continuously changing their business units, which has many consequences. Therefore, considering the issues of environmental psychology in order to recognize the effective components and improving the environmental conditions in these spaces is of great importance.
Research Question: How does the mechanism of five senses affect users' sense of belonging in commercial complexes? How is the effect of the sense of belonging to the place of the users based on the variables of the sense of place in commercial centers?
Research Method: The present study is of descriptive-analytical type, and a survey research design was used to carry it out. Using library studies, the factors of sensory preferences (as an independent variable) affecting the sense of belonging to the users' place (as a dependent variable) with Pursuing the concept of a sense of place (as a mediating variable) and according to the proposed model, 384 questionnaires based on a 5-choice Likert scale in the commercial complexes of Tabriz (Laleh Park, Atlas and Setare Baran) distribution and relationships between the variables using The structural equation system (SEM) was analyzed using Amos24 software. Participants below 18 years and with an artistic background were excluded from the study due to their differences and their effect on the process of study.
The Most Important Results and Conclusion: In today's community, the increasing gap between people and artificial environments has decreased the intimacy and the city has less emphasized as the center of cultural and social activities. Thus, the issue of the relationship between man and the environment in recent decades has received much attention by the experts in different sciences. However, there are still many questions related to how to define the relationship between the human and place for use in the process of architectural design that the non-responsiveness of the reviewers and designers to these questions cause the reduction of efficiency and lack of desirability of man-made environments. The results of the analyzes indicate that about 66% of the variability of the sense of place can be predicted based on the variables of sensory preferences, and the variables of mechanical sound, natural smell, touch, including functional and instrumental, and visual, including legibility, coherence, and mystery, have the significance level less than 0.05, also 46% of the changeability of the sense of attachment can be predicted based on the variables of the sense of place and the variables of enclosure, inviting, security, vitality and expectation of behaviors have the significance level less than 0.05 . Thus, designers, urban planners and executives of these spaces by considering the results of study can create a good connection between the users' perceptions and the environment by emphasizing the sensory senses and this leads to an increase in social interactions, satisfaction, and finally the quality improvement and success of such spaces. In the end, the result of the research is presented in the form of architectural design strategies
